Abstract

This paper presents a baseline model for an aeronautical telecommunications network (ATN) based on the operational concept as describe the ICAO recommendations, give an explanation about the different services supported and its applications. Special emphasis is given to the different ground to ground applications supported for the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN). For reference, the paper also presents the current state of the implementation of the AMHS (Aeronautical Message Handling System) and the AIDC (Aeronautical Interfacility Data Communications) used in Colombia to provide air navigation services. The paper presents an analytical comparison between the current system and the proposed ATN concept, it is important to take into account the actual and future air-traffic conditions of the country and the local planning of CNS/ATM introduction within the Air Navigation Plan of the Colombian Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aviation (UAEAC), the Colombian civil aviation authority. Finally, this paper gives an overview about the future trends implementation for the ATN ground to ground applications in Colombia and concludes about the raised topics.
