Abstract

Atmospheric thermal emission spectra 7–15 μm have been obtained under clear skies, at different elevation angles and for a spectral slit width of 200 Å. Absolute spectral radiances are compared with those calculated for a layer model of the atmosphere through the use of the radiative transfer equation and using actual altitude profiles of temperature, pressure, and water vapour obtained by balloon sounding concurrently with thermal emission measurements.
