Abstract

Preliminary results from the observation of atmospheric neutrinos with a live time of 208.3 days in the 50-kton water Čerenkov detector Super-Kamiokande are reported. The double ratio R=( μ/ e) observed//( μ/ e) predicted found to be significantly lower than unity for both sub-GeV events and multi-GeV events. These initial Super-Kamiokande results are consistent with the Kamiokande results and confirm the atmospheric-neutrino anomaly. For the sub-GeV events, R exhibits zenith-angle dependence.
