Abstract

Abstract We show that the Kamiokande and IMB atmospheric neutrino flux data, together with the nucleosynthesis constraint on neutrino oscillations, implies an unambiguous v μ − v τ mixing. We discuss the implications of such a mixing for the solar neutrino problem, hot dark matter and the 17 keV state and argue, that a simultaneous solution for the atmospheric and solar neutrino problems, with a neutrino as a hot dark matter candidate, requires a new sterile, non-interacting neutrino species.
