Abstract

Thin sputtered CuCr metastable alloys have been exposed to the laboratory atmosphere. Changes, due to atmospheric corrosion, are monitored by electrochemical methods, electrical contact resistance measurements and visual inspection. Significant corrosion inhibition is observed which is attributed to the formation of a passive chromium oxide layer. Typical for the atmospheric corrosion of CuCr films is the absence of cuprous sulphide in the corrosion film.
