Abstract

This slender volume represents the distillation of Dr. Dyer's approach to ocular muscle surgery. As such, it makes no pretensions of being a comprehensive survey of this complex and, at times, controversial subspecialty. Most of the book is devoted to a pictorial representation of the surgical procedures used by the author in his approach to the various extraocular muscles. The illustrations accompanying the brief and compact text are, for the most part, well drawn and presented with clarity and accuracy. The latter part of the book makes an attempt to present a concrete definition of the amount of surgery indicated for specific defects. Although the dangers inherent in reducing muscle surgery to mathematical formulation are well recognized, the neophyte is nonetheless anxious for specific guidelines until his own experience can modify his judgment.
