Abstract
Evidence-Based Answer Most hydroceles resolve spontaneously within the first year of life. Surgery referral is usually indicated only if the hydrocele persists beyond 12 to 18 months of age. Indications for earlier referral include large hydroceles causing pain or hydroceles with an associated inguinal hernia (SOR: B, observational studies).
