Abstract

A review of a film about 6 contemporary European theologians: Judith Wolfe, Garrick Allen, Ann Loades, David Brown, Perry Schmidt-Leukel and Lieven Boeve sponsored by the Templeton Religion Trust. Beautifully made by Sean Dimond, the film interweaves the interviewees’ theological explorations with elements of their biography and shots of their daily lives and recreations. Despite the very different fields in which they all work: eschatology, the textual history of the Bible, the place of women in church and society, religion and art, interreligious understanding, theology and interruption, common themes begin to emerge, the elusiveness of self-understanding, the sense of the diversity and the constantly developing nature of religious traditions, such that there is always more to be expected and surprised by.
