Abstract
Takao Nishitani joined NEC Corporation in April 1973 after receiving his M.S. degree from Osaka University, Japan. He was assigned to the company's Communications Laboratories and became my first direct report there. Just a year prior, I had been given a new research direction, to apply the then-emerging digital signal processing techniques to the implementation of new categories of digital communication terminal equipment.
