She is a sculptor, painter, and journalist who has also published short stories, children's fiction, and collections of crônicas that appeared in popular women's magazines. While her earlier writing combines autobiographical elements with an intimate narrative tone to examine social topics relating to women, her later forays into poetry—such as Rota de colisão (1993; Collision Route) and Gargantas abertas (1998; Open Throats), from which these poems are taken—are varied in theme and tone. Sometimes humorous, other times lyrical, her poetry touches on intimate, sexual moments as well as urban scenes. Colasanti's narrative works have been translated into English, Spanish, Italian, French, and German
