Abstract

Cold weather during the winter months has a direct effect on the health of vulnerable groups including older people and children under 5. It also increases the incidence of respiratory disease, flu, falls and injuries and hypothermia. Overall, the death rate in the UK is higher during winter months, from the start of December to the end of March. This article provides an overview of some of the conditions that can affect young children during cold weather, and how parents can be advised to manage and treat them.
