Abstract

Asynchronism between the users in multiple access systems like spread spectrum multi-carrier multiple access (SS-MC-MA) or multi-carrier CDMA causes intersymbol interference (ISI) and inter-subchannel interference (ICI) due to the loss of orthogonality. In this paper we investigate the effects of ISI and ICI on the performance of the asynchronous SS-MC-MA system uplink with pilot symbol-aided channel estimation. Moreover, we consider the suitability of power boosting of the pilot symbols to improve the link performance.
