Abstract

In constructing a theory, information about the properties of the coupling constants between the fields is of primary importance. In a general case, the coupling constants depend on the momenta. To emphasize this circumstance, the notion of effective (or running) coupling constant, or of effective charge, has been introduced. Of special interest is investigating the behaviour of the effective charge at large momentum transfers (|p|2→∞), in the so called asymptotic region, because it is this region where the physically important hard processes occur.
