Abstract
An asymptotic form of the modal specific acoustic impedance is derived for the limiting case of an infinite slender axially symmetric radiating cylinder. This form allows the construction of a closed-form solution for the Green’s function that determines the axial surface pressure resulting from a ring velocity excitation on a infinite rigid cylinder. It also provides the means of constructing an approximate closed-form solution for the axial pressure distribution due to a finite axially symmetric velocity band with a cosine distribution on an infinite slender cylinder with rigid baffles. The approximate forms allow the pressure distribution to be be modeled as the sum of a pressure field derived from an infinite cylinder plus the radiation field of two ring sources arising from end effects.
