Abstract

Physical states and fields in QED are defined as limits in the sense of Wightman functions of states and composite fields of the Gupta-Bleuler formalism. A formulation of asymptotic completeness proposed in an earlier publication for the Gupta-Bleuler case is transferred to the physical state space and shown to be valid in perturbation theory. An application to the calculation of inclusive cross sections is discussed.
