Abstract

This study attempts to estimate seismic attenuation experienced by P‐wave while it propagates through a porous layered fluid‐saturated medium. The model of thinly‐ layered porous fluid‐saturated media was constructed based on petro physical data from productive reservoir located in West Siberia. To predict seismic P‐wave behavior in such model we used asymptotic solution for wave propagation in porous medium which was initially proposed by Silin & Goloshubin, (2010). The asymptotic solution at seismic frequencies gives precise approximation of Biot model describing seismic wave propagation in such medium. In this work only the case of seismic wave propagating at normal angle of incidence to the surface of the medium was considered. Numerically calculated values of P‐wave attenuation coefficient, phase velocity and quality factor demonstrated highly dispersive properties of the reservoir, which affects both P‐wave transmissions and reflections at seismic frequencies. Such high attenuation can't be explained by homogeneous approximation of the layered reservoir structure.
