Abstract

The equilibrium of a symmetrically loaded, thin walled spherical shell is considered. A study is made of the asymptotic behavior of the solution as the relative thickness γ of the shell tends to zero. An asymptotic expansion has been established which estimates the error in the technical theory and enables one to derive more exact theories.
