Abstract

Ethene-grown Micrococcus sp. M90C catalysed the stereospecific oxygenation of thioanisole in very high chemical yields (>99 mol %). (+)-Phenyl methyl sulphoxide accumulated and was formed almost exclusively in the R-configuration [enantiomeric excess (ee) >90%]. This provides an attractive and convenient method for its chiral production.
