Abstract

A novel copper(II)-salen complex supported on MCM-41 [MCM-41-Cu(salen)] was designed, prepared, and characterized by various microscopic and spectroscopic methods. MCM-41-Cu(salen) catalyzed the asymmetric Henry reaction of aldehydes with nitromethane in the presence of morpholine to afford the corresponding nitro alcohols in up to 92% yield with up to 90% ee (20 examples, eq. 1).
