Abstract

We investigated the pinning of flux lines in a superconductingfilm by a regular array of magnetic antidots. The sampleconsists of a Co/Pt multilayer with perpendicular magneticanisotropy in which a regular pattern of submicron holes isintroduced and which is covered by a type-II superconducting Pbfilm. The resulting ferromagnetic/superconducting heterostructureshows a pronounced asymmetric magnetization curve with respect tothe field polarity. This asymmetry clearly demonstrates that themagnetic contribution dominates the pinning potential imposed bythe magnetic antidots on the superconducting film.
