Abstract Proper motions and BV magnitudes are determined for 600 stars in the vicinity of the X-ray globular cluster NGC 6712 using plates obtained with the 5-m telescope at Palomar Observatory in 1955, with the 36-inch telescope at Lick Observatory during 1964-1979, with the 40-inch telescope at Yerkes Observatory in 1979, and with the 2.5-m telescope at Las Campanas in 1985. The data are compiled in extensive tables and graphs and characterized in detail. NGC 6712 cluster parameters calculated include E(B-V) = 0.42 + or - 0.03, distance = 6.5 + or - 0.6 kpc (if the horizontal branch V magnitude is 0.85 mag), and space velocity inconsistent with membership in the local disk subpopulation of globulars. A blue star of V magnitude about 20 mag is discussed as a candidate optical counterpart of the NGC 6712 X-ray source.
