Abstract

ASTM Committee F-23 on Protective Clothing was organized in 1976 and is chartered to develop standard methods of test, terminology, classifications and performance specifications for clothing used to protect against occupational hazards. Such hazards include, but are not limited to, liquid chemicals, gaseous chemicals and molten metals. Protective clothing materials currently under study include a wide range of fabrics and polymers, alone and in combination, which have potential for resisting one or more of these hazards. The committee has just promulgated its first standard test methods and is working to complete several others in the very near future.
