Abstract

Purpose: In any given year, low back pain (LBP) affects many adults around the world and generates tremendous personal and societal burden. Among patients referred from primary care with persistent LBP, 41% have a clinical profile and symptoms consistent with spine facet osteoarthritis-induced lumbar spinal stenosis (S-FOA+LSS). S-FOA+LSS is the principal cause of chronic back (and leg/neurogenic claudication) pain for 1 in 5 adults over the age of 65, and is the primary reason for spinal surgery in this age group.
