Abstract

The mango stone or nut weevil, Sternochetus mangiferae (Fabricius), infests developing mango fruits in several countries. When infestation was reduced by chemical intervention with deltamethrin, fruit drop also decreased, indirectly indicating the role of stone weevil in fruit drop. Reductions in fruit drop obtained by insecticidal protection varied between 16.8 and 60.5%, and these varied significantly between different mango varieties.
