Abstract
Purpose: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a highly prevalent disease associated with long-term impairments in joint function. An example of such are flexion contractures, which are defined as chronically flexed joints that cannot be straightened actively or passively. Although flexion contractures are common in the OA population, few studies explore the underlying mechanism behind their development. As flexion contractures create significant disability and are challenging to treat, determining methods of primary prevention is integral.
