Abstract

We read the letter by Turhan et al. [1] about the paper by Harikrishnan et al. [2]. Authors [1] speculate that chronic subclinic inflammatory process is likely to be associated with the progression of the disease in patients with rheumatic valve disease. However, our recent paper [3] in this subject provided important data which are more than speculation. We measured levels of cytokines interleukin-6, interleukin-2 receptor, interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and serum inflammatory markers (fibrinogen, high-sensitive C-reactive protein) in chronic rheumatic valve disease patients [3].
