Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between sleep duration and the prevalence of hypertension in middle-aged and elderly Chinese. Methods The cross-sectional study method was applied to analyze the data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) of Peking University. A total of 7 885 subjects were included in this study. According to nocturnal sleep duration, the subjects were divided into 5 groups: ≤5 h, > 5- Results Taking nocturnal sleep duration 6- Conclusions In Chinese middle aged and elderly people, nocturnal sleep duration ≤5 h may be an independent risk factor for hypertension. And for males, nocturnal sleep duration ≤5 h can increase the risk of hypertension.
