Abstract

(BJOG. 2023;130:407–414) Although it has been considered the standard of care to evaluate the fetus during labor, intrapartum electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) is controversial in its effectiveness for reducing cerebral palsy and perinatal mortality. Research on fetal heart rate (FHR) analysis has demonstrated high interobserver variability and with low specificity. Further, the pathophysiology of FHR marked variability is not well understood and research is limited.
