Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a highly prevalent metabolic disorder which has life-long acute and chronic complications, constituting a huge global public health burden. The influence of diabetes on oral health is established. However, literature assessing psychosocial aspects that are necessary for managing metabolic control and oral health in diabetics is scarce. Aim: To determine the association between health locus of control and oral health among patients with Type 2 DM in Bengaluru City. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional conducted among 300 participants with and without type 2 DM visiting government hospitals in Bengaluru City from November 2017 to September 2019. The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) Scale (Internal [IHLC], Powerful Others [PHLC], and Chance [CHLC]) and the WHO pro forma 2013 were used to assess health locus of control and oral health, respectively.
