Abstract

Introduction Neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) show different degrees of blood lactate levels and metabolic acidosis after birth. It is unclear whether lactate values impact long-term outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate if initial and maximal blood lactate levels and the clearance of blood lactate in neonates with HIE during therapeutic hypothermia (TH) were associated with neurodevelopmental outcome at 18-24 months of age.
