Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the association between anthropometric parameters and the prevalence of dental caries and its clinical consequences among children from the Senor de los Milagros preschool in Santa Anita, Lima. Materials and Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, 100 children from 5 to 6 years of age were examined. Dental caries was registered with the WHO’s criteria, clinical consequences of untreated dental caries were assessed with the pufa index and anthropometric indexes (weight for age, height for age and BMI for age) were measured using WHO’s AnthroPlus software. The association between dmf-t index and BMI was then analyzed; the data was processed by Chi-square test. Results: A high prevalence of dental caries (73%) and its clinical consequences (33%) was found in this preschool population. An increment in the pufa index was detected in children aged 6 (p=0,013).
