Abstract

Pharmaceutical assistance refers to the set of actions aimed at the promotion, protection and recovery of health, individual or collective, whose essence is the promotion of rational use of medicines. The objective of this article was to investigate the drug consumption habits of the population of certain drugstores in a city of Goias and the type of pharmaceutical assistance provided by the pharmacy professionals in these drugstores. It is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative character. Clients of the drugstore and pharmacists responsible for them were interviewed. Most clients (55%) reported using medication with clinical indication (prescription), 65% of clients reported having used medication incorrectly, and the change in dosage was the common error. Clients were also asked to know what pharmaceutical care was, and the majority (65%) did not know about this type of health care. Interviews were conducted with five pharmacists on their experiences with pharmaceutical care. When questioned about the criteria they use for the indication of medicines to clients it was reported that they follow the resolution no 585 of 2013, also informed that the anamnesis is carried out at the client. The data suggest that it is necessary for clients to be educated about the importance of this assistance, since according to the found, most are unaware of what pharmaceutical assistance is. This could have a positive impact on the way clients use drugs, stimulating their rational use.
