Abstract

Investors have learned from the global financial crisis that markets are adaptive, complex networks and that risk is not equivalent to volatility but is ultimately immeasurable. Successful portfolio construction and risk management in an age of uncertainty will depend on understanding and incorporating the underlying risk factors and developing robust decision-making systems to guard against pro-cyclical investment behavior.
