Abstract
This article, the first of a series of articles developed from an assessment technology seminar conducted at Family Services of Central Maryland, presents an overview of a generic approach to assessment with particular attention to families. The author discusses worker philosophy as a prerequisite for engaging in assessment and presents a comprehensive framework for family assessment grounded in an ecological systems theoretical perspective.
