Abstract

Quantity Surveying is a non-gender restricted technical profession that asserts effective financial management in all construction activities. The profession involves in costing, planning and financial administration of building, civil, and industrial engineering works. Women are known for being sensitive, moderate and possessive of huge managerial capabilities. Meanwhile, there are lots of misnomer in Nigeria construction industry such as cost overrun, corruption and poor project delivery. Quantity Surveyors been the financial experts; there is need therefore to examine the level of participation of women Quantity surveyors in the industry which is the aim of this paper. This was achieved by identifying the roles been played by female QS in the industry. The paper also investigates challenges facing female Quantity Surveyors in the industry. The relationship between male and female quantity surveyors was also explored while necessary recommendations were made. Well-structured questionnaire and interview was instrument of data collection. The analyses were carried out using ranking, regression and correlation analysis. Conclusion and recommendation were drawn on evaluating the assessment of quantity surveyor’s women in south east of Nigeria and different strategies in which the profession as a whole could adopt for positive change was suggested.
