Abstract

As a result of the increasing investment and output of social sciences in China over the past four decades, the national social sciences assessment scheme has improved significantly. Its assessment objects range from policy instruments implementation, financial funding mandate, to human resources management, etc. This chapter reviews representative events, institutions, and constituent systems of China's national social sciences assessment scheme, from the perspective of both top-level governance and bottom-up initiatives, to provide a snapshot of China's national social sciences assessment scheme. Several new orientations of China's national social sciences assessment scheme in recent research policy reform are discussed to indicate future strategic priorities.
