Abstract

This study investigated the nature of the relationship themes of a person wilh AIDS recounted during the course of therapy. The narrative episodes told by the client and her parents over the course of 10 sessions of individual therapy and 8 sessions of family therapy served as the database for rating the wishes or needs of the client, responses from significant other person(s), and responses of the self. Responses of self at the commencement of therapy were contrasted with responses of self upon termination of therapy. The narrative approach and analysis of interpersonal themes is presented as a viable method to evaluate therapeutic change.
