Abstract

There is a growing awareness of the environmental issues about the construction industry around the world. While the implementation and the application of EMS in the construction industry has shown positive effects in improving the environmental performance around the world. The Environmental Management System (EMS) illustrates a possible solution to reduce the harmful effects of the construction industry on the environment. The environmental management system provides a standard framework that a company can implement and enhance its environmental performance. The awareness of the engineers involved in the construction about the environmental management system and the importance and necessity of its implementation in Rasht City has been studied in this research. The advantages of implementing this system, barriers and factors driving the system implementation were assessed from the engineers' point of view. Developing and presenting a questionnaire by senior construction contractors in Rasht City about their awareness and experience regarding the environmental management system have been studied in this paper that finally, the collected data were analyzed using SPSS software and Relative Index (RI).The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and awareness of senior construction officials from the environmental management system, assessing the awareness and awareness of engineers about the harmful effects of construction on the environment, studying the advantages of implementing this system, examining the barriers of the implementation of the environmental management system and the driving factors that will ultimately lead to the implementation of the system and reduction of the harmful effects of construction on the environment.
