Abstract

On the basis of the available scientific information the impact of pollution of the aquatic environment by the chloropropenes: allyl chloride, and 1,3- and 2,3-dichloropropene has been evaluated. These chloropropenes have low persistence in the aquatic environment and their bioaccumulation is negligible. The available data indicate moderate aquatic toxicity, but further data obtained under well-controlled experimental conditions are needed to substantiate this conclusion. The acute mammalian toxicity of the chloropropenes is moderate. These compounds possess mutagenic activity in a variety of test systems. Weak carcinogenic effects have been observed in experimental animals.
