Abstract

Subject. The article addresses the impact of horizontal or group inequality on terrorism. Objectives. The purpose is to quantify the impact of ethnic economic inequality on terrorism threat. Methods. The study draws on regression analysis. Results. The paper established that a higher degree of ethnic inequality spurs a greater number of terrorist acts and a greater number of people killed or injured. It shows that countries with a high degree of political freedom and high quality of public administration, as a rule, are less likely to suffer from terrorism. Conclusions. The promotion of economic equality of ethnic groups can potentially reduce the risk of domestic terrorism.
