Abstract

The approximations made in the statistical multistep direct reaction theory of Feshbach, Kerman, and Koonin are examined. It is shown that these approximations individually produce rather large errors and that, although they sometimes cancel out partially, a significant amount of net error remains in general.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Multistep direct reaction methods, Feshbach-Kerman-Koonin approximations.
