Abstract

Statement of the problem. The changing quality and condition of a road surface requires timely repairs, which leads to the need for a detailed inspection of the road. Visual methods have been used for a long time to assess the condition of the road surface. This was based on the knowledge of experts — specialists in the road industry. The use of modern computing systems and information technologies opens up new prospects in the processing of the received information, in particular, the identification of those defects that, due to the properties of human vision, were discarded. First of all, this concerns the condition of the upper layer of the road — asphalt concrete. Results. The conducted studies of the condition of the pavement using optical methods of registration and subsequent mathematical processing provided additional data allowing for a new interpretation of the development of some road defects. This will enable us to further carry out a new classification of types of defects that can be recognized by mathematical methods, including neural network technologies. Conclusions. The use of assessment of the condition of the road surface using modern information technologies increases the effectiveness of the survey, the accuracy of expert assessment and allows one to forecast changes in the operational condition of the road surface.
