Abstract
For surface texture with microprojections bounded by concave semicircles in two-dimensional space, analytical formulas are derived for the probability of filling of the surface layer with material, both within cross sections and layers and over the volume as a whole. Comparison of probability estimates obtained by graphical and analytical methods permits judgments regarding their correspondence to the surface of parts machined by various methods. The probability characteristics provide quantitative assessment of the structure of the microscopic irregularities and take account of their shape, repetition frequency, and height in the case of identical geometric characteristics. An analytical expression for the shape of the profile in Fourier-series form is obtained and may be used in developing software for CNC machine tools.
