Abstract

The interested girl students (n=400) of class 11th and 12th of five Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary Schools in rural areas of Rohtak district were administered with a Structured questionnaire consisting of 20 items to measure the attitude of adolescent girls towards breast feeding. The willing students, who were present at the time of data collection, were asked to complete the questionnaire. The questions in the questionnaire centered on convenience, skills/knowledge, emotional, physical/social aspects of infant feeding. A five point Likert scale was used to rate responses. Study has indicated that adolescents have both negative and positive attitudes and have common misconceptions regarding breastfeeding that appear to result from their limited knowledge and reduced exposure to breastfeeding.
