Abstract

The paper has investigated sorption of 137Cs and 90Sr on natural clayey minerals—montmorrilonite of the Cherkassy and kaolinite of Hlukhovets deposits and their modified forms by means of precipitation of hydroxides of Fe(III) an humic acids with fraction of total mass 5%. It has been found that both for natural minerals and for their modified forms the most effective sorption of radionuclides from aqueous solutions is observed in a broad area of the pH characteristic of natural soil media. An increase of the sorption value of radionuclides occurs in the series: M < M-GK < M-Fe. A similar relationship is observed also for kaolinite samples. We have determined the impact on the sorption of 137Cs and 90Sr of cations-macrocomponents—Na+ and Ca2+ characteristic of natural water media.
