Abstract

<b>Introduction:</b> A portion of COVID-19 patients report sleep disturbances during hospitalization. <b>Aim:</b> The assessment of sleep disturbances, anxiety and depression in COVID-19 patients. <b>Methods:</b> The study was performed from March to May 2022 among COVID-19 patients. Assessment of sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and fatigue were done by the questionnaires PSQI, ESS, ISI, HADS and FAS respectively, during hospitalization. <b>Results:</b> 68 patients with COVID-19 were included. 32 (47,1%) were men, mean age 58,4 ± 14,6, mean duration of hospitalization 11.2 ± 8,6 days and mean days of symptoms before admission 5.7 ± 4. 39. (57,4%) were vaccinated. 45 (66.2%) presented hypoxemia during hospitalization. 4 patients (2.9%) were intubated and admitted to the ICU. We recorded no deaths. The most common symptoms on admission were fever 70,6%, cough 55,9% and fatigue 30,9% and the most common comorbidities hypertension 35,3%, dyslipidemia 25%, diabetes melitus 19,1% and obesity 14,7%. During hospitalization 42 patients (61.8%) reported poor quality of sleep, 25 (36,8%) reported some degree of sleepiness, 25 (36,8%) reported symptoms of insomnia, 21 (30,9%) anxiety, 15 (22,1%) depression and 41 (60,3%) fatigue. The majority of COVID-19 patients present poor quality of sleep and fatigue during hospitalization, while about 1/3 of them report symptoms of sleepiness and insomnia.
