Abstract

The author describes the global patterns of geodynamics-related accidents at tailings ponds of mining and processing plants. Based on the statistical analysis of causes of such accidents, it is concluded on the necessity of the anticipatory mathematico-cartographic modeling of geodynamic processing and possible after-effects of such accidents at tailings dams at their design stage. The mathematico-cartographic modeling allows integrating computation, spatial representation and analysis, as well as ensures reliable assessment of risk zones in tailings dam failure and engineering-and-management decision-making with regard to safety. The suitability of the model is ensured by RR-criterion formulated in compliance with the fundamental Idea of Academician A. N. Kolmagorov.
