Abstract

Breast cancer is a multifactorial disease. This study was undertaken to study various risk factors associated with breast cancer. This was a case control study conducted between August 2017 to August 2018 at Department of surgery, Dr.B.R.A.M Hospital and Pt.JNM Medical college, Raipur, (C.G.). Cases were women with histopathologically confirmed breast cancer. Controls were age-matched women without any current breast problem or previous breast cancer. A total of 138 cases and 138 controls were enrolled. They were interviewed for menstrual history, breast feeding history, abortion history, family history etc. after obtaining informed written consent. The significant risk factors were age > 25 years at first child birth (OR 2.80, 95%CI 1.13–6.95), breast feeding history of 25 years, breast feeding duration of <2 years, history of abortion and comorbidities increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
