Abstract

The advanced systems of control and traffic management, which are part of the contemporary Intelligent Transportation Systems, are utilizing sophisticated technology enabling automatic license plate recognition. Systems of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) are used in the process of search for stolen vehicles, recording the time of entry of the vehicle, identification of users who violate road traffic regulations, etc. In each of these applications extremely important issue is the reliability and quality of data identification which are the basis for the detection of mentioned events. The basis of ALPR systems operation is the acquisition of data from the monitoring systems, which provide detection and identification of objects. Achieving the full functionality of the ALPR system requires consideration of factors that affect the efficiency of the image analysis as well as objects detection and identification processes. The main research problem considered in this paper is to analyse the impact of mentioned factors on the quality and reliability of the license plate recognition process.
