Abstract

The attention towards the quality of power supplied is increasing due to many factors. The deteriorated power supply results into large economic loss and loss of data. This has made the identification and solution of Power Quality (PQ) disturbances the stringent requirement of the day. Precise identification of such PQ disturbances helps us to plan the appropriate mitigation techniques. This article proposes an efficient technique for identification of various PQ disturbances using a statistical parameter Average Deviation and M-band Wavelet Packet Transform (M-band WPT). PQ disturbances as per IEEE 11592009 standard definition are simulated using MATLAB script files. Aforementioned statistical parameter is computed for each Mband WPT decomposition coefficient. Similar results are obtained using conventional Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT). At the end comparative study of the results of M-band WPT and WPT is done.
